Rihanna and ASAP Rocky are officially parents! The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Riot Rose, in late August and have finally shared some adorable photos of their newborn son with the world.
The Barbadian singer and the American rapper posted several pictures of Riot Rose on their respective Instagram accounts on Monday, September 6, 2023. The photos show the happy parents cuddling and kissing their son, who has a full head of curly hair and big brown eyes.
Rihanna captioned her post with a heart emoji and the hashtag #RiotRose, while ASAP Rocky wrote “My son shine” and tagged Rihanna. The posts quickly amassed millions of likes and comments from fans and celebrities alike, who congratulated the couple and gushed over their baby.
Among the well-wishers were Beyoncé, Drake, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, and many more. Rihanna’s mother, Monica Fenty, also commented on her daughter’s post, saying “My grandson is so beautiful. I love you RiRi and Rocky. God bless you all.”
Rihanna and ASAP Rocky have been dating since late 2020, after being friends for years. They confirmed their relationship in January 2021, when they appeared together in a video for GQ magazine. They have since been spotted together in various locations, such as Barbados, New York, Los Angeles, and Paris.
The couple announced their pregnancy in June 2021, during an interview with Vanity Fair. They revealed that they were expecting a boy and that they had already chosen a name for him. They also expressed their excitement and gratitude for becoming parents.
“We are so blessed and thankful for this gift. We can’t wait to meet our son and share our love with him. He’s already our everything,” Rihanna said.
ASAP Rocky added, “This is the best thing that ever happened to me. Rihanna is the most amazing woman I’ve ever known and I’m honored to be her partner and the father of her child. He’s going to be a rockstar.”
The couple also shared some details about their son’s name, which is inspired by both of their musical influences. Riot Rose is a tribute to the Wu-Tang Clan member RZA, whose real name is Robert Fitzgerald Diggs. RZA is one of ASAP Rocky’s mentors and collaborators, as well as a friend of Rihanna.
“RZA is like family to us. He’s been there for us since day one and he’s always supported our vision and creativity. He’s a legend and we wanted to honor him by naming our son after him,” ASAP Rocky explained.
Rose is a reference to Rihanna’s middle name, Robyn Rihanna Fenty. The singer said that she wanted to give her son a part of her identity and heritage.
“Rose is my middle name and it’s also a symbol of love and beauty. It represents my roots in Barbados and my connection to my fans, who call themselves the Navy. I wanted my son to have a name that reflects who I am and where I come from,” Rihanna said.
The couple also revealed that they plan to raise their son in both Barbados and the United States, as well as travel with him around the world.
“We want our son to experience different cultures and learn from them. We want him to be open-minded and curious about life. We want him to be happy and free,” Rihanna said.
ASAP Rocky agreed, saying “We want our son to be himself and follow his dreams. We want him to be inspired by music and art. We want him to be a leader and a rebel. We want him to be Riot Rose.”
